Beebrush

Aloysia gratissima

FAMILY: Verbenaceae (Verbena Family)

A resilient native native Texas shrub that provides year-round foliage and structure to the landscape. Native across the Chihuahuan Deserts, Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Southern Texas Plains, and Texas Blackland Prairies, Beebrush (Aloysia gratissima) thrives in local conditions while supporting the surrounding ecosystem. During spring, summer, and fall, the plant produces delightfully fragrant, white flower clusters. Flowering gives way to ornamental schizocarps that ripen through summer and autumn. It plays a vital ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Southern Dogface. Honey plant. Also provides browse for wildlife. Thriving in clay, limestone, loam, moist, rocky, and sand, Beebrush demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and adapts seamlessly to drought conditions. It features high deer resistance.
