A vital larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies including Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Heliconian, Bracted Passionflower (Passiflora affinis) is a deciduous Texas vine native across the Edwards Plateau.
During Spring, Summer, and Fall, the plant produces green, yellow blooms. Flowering is followed by purple-black fruit that adds seasonal contrast.
It plays a key ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Heliconian. It provides essential nectar, shelter, or forage for native wildlife, including Butterflies.
Thriving in dry, limestone, moist, and well drained, Bracted Passionflower demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers minimal deer resistance.
