A standout species for Texas gardens, Coralberry (Symphoricarpos orbiculatus) is a deciduous shrub native across the East Central Texas Plains, Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Western Gulf Coastal Plain. It features distinctive green foliage.
During Spring and Summer, the plant produces green, white blooms. After blooming, it produces light brown to almost black.
It plays a key ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Horace's Duskywing.
Thriving in loam, moist, rocky, and well drained, Coralberry demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease.
