Native across the Central Great Plains, Chihuahuan Deserts, Cross Timbers, Edwards Plateau, Southern Texas Plains, Southwestern Tablelands, and Texas Blackland Prairies, Lace Cactus (Echinocereus reichenbachii) is an adaptable evergreen succulent valued for both ornamental appeal and ecosystem support. Its persistent foliage provides year-round green structure and shelter for local garden wildlife. During Spring, the plant produces pink blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental berry that add seasonal interest. It provides essential nectar, shelter, or forage for native wildlife, including Bees and Small Mammals. Best suited to caliche, clay, dry, granitic, gravelly, rocky, sand, and well drained, Lace Cactus adapts seamlessly to local soil conditions. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers high deer resistance.
