Engelmann's Daisy

Thriving across the Central Great Plains, Chihuahuan Deserts, Cross Timbers, East Central Texas Plains, Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, High Plains, Southern Texas Plains, Southwestern Tablelands, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Western Gulf Coastal Plain, Engelmann's Daisy (Engelmannia peristenia) is an enduring semi-evergreen perennial prized in water-wise native landscapes. During Spring and Summer, the plant produces yellow blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental brown. fruit is a cypsela (pl. cypselae). though technically incorrect, the fruit is often referred to as an achene that add seasonal interest. This plant is preferred by livestock, and will disappear from grazed areas. It provides essential nectar, shelter, or forage for native wildlife, including Bees, Birds, Butterflies, and Small Mammals. Best suited to calcareous, caliche, clay, dry, limestone, loam, sand, and well drained, Engelmann's Daisy adapts seamlessly to local soil conditions. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers no deer resistance.
