Engelmann's Daisy

A resilient evergreen native Texas herbaceous that provides year-round foliage and structure to the landscape. Native across the Central Great Plains, Chihuahuan Deserts, Cross Timbers, East Central Texas Plains, Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, High Plains, Southern Texas Plains, Southwestern Tablelands, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Western Gulf Coastal Plain, Engelmann's Daisy (Engelmannia peristenia) thrives in local conditions while supporting the surrounding ecosystem. Its dense, persistent foliage provides year-round thermal cover, privacy screening, and evergreen architectural structure. During spring and summer, the plant produces yellow flower clusters. Flowering is followed by brown. fruit is a cypsela (pl. cypselae). though technically incorrect, the fruit is often referred to as an achene that add vibrant visual contrast and seasonal interest. This plant is preferred by livestock, and will disappear from grazed areas. The species provides essential habitat and food, supporting Bees, Birds, Butterflies, and Small Mammals. Thriving in calcareous, caliche, clay, dry, limestone, loam, sand, and well drained, Engelmann's Daisy demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and adapts seamlessly to drought conditions. It features no deer resistance.
