Coral Honeysuckle

A vital larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies including Spring Azure and Snowberry Clearwing Moth, Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens) is a semi-evergreen Texas vine native across the Cross Timbers, East Central Texas Plains, Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Western Gulf Coastal Plain. It features distinctive green foliage. During Spring and Summer, the plant produces red, yellow blooms. After blooming, it produces red to black. 0.25 in. It plays a key ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Spring Azure and Snowberry Clearwing Moth. Flowers attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. Fruits attract quail, Purple Finch, Goldfinch, Hermit Thrush, American Robin. Thriving in caliche, clay, rich, sand, and well drained, Coral Honeysuckle demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease.
