Thriving across the East Central Texas Plains, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Western Gulf Coastal Plain, Gulf Muhly (Muhlenbergia capillaris) is an enduring deciduous native grass prized in water-wise native landscapes. It features distinctive yellow-green foliage. During Fall, the plant produces pink, purple blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental caryopsis that add seasonal interest. It provides essential nectar, shelter, or forage for native wildlife, including Birds, Butterflies, and Small Mammals. Best suited to calcareous, clay, rocky, sand, and well drained, Gulf Muhly adapts seamlessly to local soil conditions. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers high deer resistance.
