Obedient Plant

Native across the Chihuahuan Deserts, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Western Gulf Coastal Plain, Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana) is an adaptable deciduous perennial valued for both ornamental appeal and ecosystem support. During Summer and Fall, the plant produces pink, purple blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental nutlets that add seasonal interest. It provides essential nectar, shelter, or forage for native wildlife, including Butterflies and Hummingbirds. Thriving in clay, limestone, moist, poor drainage, and sand, Obedient Plant demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers high deer resistance.
