Texas Milkweed

A vital larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies including Monarch, Texas Milkweed (Asclepias texana) is a deciduous Texas perennial native across the Chihuahuan Deserts and Edwards Plateau. During Spring, Summer, and Fall, the plant produces white blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental follicle that add seasonal interest. It plays a key ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Monarch. Thriving in dry, gravelly, loam, and sand, Texas Milkweed demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease.
