Wild Red Columbine

A resilient evergreen native Texas herbaceous that provides year-round foliage and structure to the landscape. Native across the Edwards Plateau and Texas Blackland Prairies, Wild Red Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) thrives in local conditions while supporting the surrounding ecosystem. Distinguished by dark foliage that is glaucous green, it offers an exceptional visual and tactile texture. During spring and summer, the plant produces red, yellow flower clusters. Flowering is followed by green to dark grey 13-18 mm follicles, 2 mm seeds that add vibrant visual contrast and seasonal interest. Attracts butterflies and bumblebees. Thriving in calcareous, limestone, loam, moist, sand, and well drained, Wild Red Columbine demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and adapts seamlessly to drought conditions.
