Wild Red Columbine

Celebrated for its regional ecological value, Wild Red Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) is a semi-evergreen Texas perennial native across the Edwards Plateau and Texas Blackland Prairies. It features distinctive glaucous green foliage. During Spring and Summer, the plant produces red, yellow blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental green to dark grey 13-18 mm follicles, 2 mm seeds that add seasonal interest. Attracts butterflies and bumblebees. Best suited to calcareous, limestone, loam, moist, sand, and well drained, Wild Red Columbine adapts seamlessly to local soil conditions. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease.
