Wright's Skullcap

Wright's Skullcap (Scutellaria wrightii) is a resilient evergreen Texas perennial native across the Central Great Plains, Chihuahuan Deserts, Cross Timbers, and Edwards Plateau. Its persistent foliage provides year-round green structure and shelter for local garden wildlife. During Spring and Summer, the plant produces purple, white blooms. Flowering is followed by ornamental nutlets that add seasonal interest. It provides essential nectar, shelter, or forage for native wildlife, including Bees, Butterflies, and Hummingbirds. Thriving in dry, limestone, loam, moist, sand, and well drained, Wright's Skullcap demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers minimal deer resistance.
