Spanish Dagger

A vital larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies including Yucca Giant-Skipper and Yucca Giant Skipper Butterfly, Spanish Dagger (Yucca treculeana) is a evergreen Texas succulent native across the Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, and Southern Texas Plains. It features distinctive dark green to blue green foliage. During Spring, the plant produces red, white blooms. After blooming, it produces seeds dull black 6.5-10 cm. It plays a key ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Yucca Giant-Skipper and Yucca Giant Skipper Butterfly. Best suited to clay, dry, rocky, sand, and well drained, Spanish Dagger adapts seamlessly to local soil conditions. It requires minimal supplemental water and tolerates dry spells with ease. It offers high deer resistance.
