Spanish Dagger

A resilient evergreen native Texas cactus & succulent that provides year-round foliage and structure to the landscape. Native across the Edwards Plateau, Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes, and Southern Texas Plains, Spanish Dagger (Yucca treculeana) thrives in local conditions while supporting the surrounding ecosystem. Distinguished by dark foliage that is dark green to blue green, it offers an exceptional visual and tactile texture. During spring, the plant produces red, white flower clusters. Flowering is followed by seeds dull black 6.5-10 cm that add vibrant visual contrast and seasonal interest. It plays a vital ecological role as a larval host plant for Central Texas butterflies, including Yucca Giant-Skipper. Thriving in clay, dry, rocky, sand, and well drained, Spanish Dagger demonstrates outstanding hardiness once established. It requires minimal supplemental water and adapts seamlessly to drought conditions. It features high deer resistance.
